[Opinion] BEAMING OUR SEARCHLIGHT ON THE NEWS MAKING HEADLINES ACROSS NIGERIA

The electoral body in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission is insisting that the result of the 2019 election were not transmitted electronically to it's server. Stressing that the commission only experimented the technology during some staggering elections held in 2018. Speaking during the post retreat organised by the commission for its staffs and ad-hoc staffs engaged for the last general election in Osun state, INEC National Commissioner, Mr. Solomon Sowebi, explained that many factors forced the commission to drop the idea of electronic transmission of results to it's central server. According to him, INEC experimented the electronic transmission of results during Anambra, Sokoto and Osun states election, held before the 2019 elections. But the commission did not sustain the use of technology during the 2019 general elections.         DISQUS Well I think the clarification is helpful, given the fact that  the server has become a major...

Broad analysis of the EU's report in enhancing future electoral process

The European Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria for the March 2019 general election has released it's final report advising a new law that ensures both transparent in the election results collation process. The EU mission concluded that the election was marred by severe operational and transparency shortcomings, electoral security problems and low turnout. It says a systematic failings in the election shows the need for fundamental reform. The EU applauded INEC for making some improvements.               DISQUS What is important is that the Nigerian government, the presidency has said that they have taken note of the 30 recommendations by the European Union election observation commission as articulated by Hannah Roberts, Deputy chief observer for the EU mission on Saturday. I think that is a positive attribute by the government for not being defensive in any way. Also the PDP has played politics with it, to say that this is a clea...

Dissecting President Buhari's June 12 speech

In terms of the spirit of President Buhari's speech, he talked about consolidation. That he hopes in the next four years to consolidate on the achievements of the last four years. He also talked about continuity, which means that clearly his priorities remains the same. To grow the economy, to address the challenges of insecurity and to tackle corruption. That much is clear. But in terms of details, I was questioning the details. That the president of Nigeria should not be boasting about 2.7% GDP growth, because we need a lot more than that. Then of course another highlight of that speech was the renaming of National stadium after late Chief MKO Abiola, which is now Mushood Abiola National Stadium. I will say that MKO Abiola being recognized generally across Africa as a pillar of sports, as a major sports philanthropist is a befitting recognition by President Buhari. Let's look at the explanation that the president offered. He said he has to do this and to recognize G...

Buhari must work towards the unification of Nigeria

The government of President Buhari, beyond making June 12 Nigeria's democracy day, beyond naming the stadium after late Chief MKO Abiola , must be able to unite Nigeria.  Some people who are not members of the ruling APC, may not be convinced that President Mohammed Buhari can unite Nigeria, because they perceive  the government as being more pro-military. When you see an executive arm of government trying to control everything, legislature, judiciary, and the media, that is military, and it calls for concern.  Today people expected that the government should have engaged in a unification process. That is why the day June 12 was first addressed by Buhari, everybody hailed him, even those who were at that time, grumbling. People expected Buhari to start from that moment, and continue bringing people together. People expected the government to invite opposition leaders, because a lot of them would have honored that invitation.  If you recall, immediately aft...

Alliance Global/Aim Global a new Ponzi created to milk poor Nigerians

The only difference between these guys and highway armed robbers, is because they don't point gun at your face, and squeeze out your belongings.  I attended one of their deceitful acclaimed seminars at their head office, located opposite Ajuji hotels, Gudu district, Abuja. After listening to their sweet radio jingles, sometime last year.  I was poised to know the method with which they disburse the billions which they boast that they get from Charity organizations, internationally. And if possible, apply to get some. Out of curiosity, I booked to sit in the front seat, in order to grapple all the information that would help to up shoot my business idea, which I was incubating then.  There introduction line was quite interesting. They played some motivational videos, said some sweet stuffs, for some hours. And all these while, I was calm.  I noticed that the lady who was tutoring us was keenly observing my movements, actions and inactions, probably to g...

Naija2dcore Newspaper review of June 7

In our today's mainstream Nigeria newspaper review of Friday, June 7, we are going to focus on the suspension of AIT/Raypower, Emir Sanusi's misappropriation of N3.4b, Goje Lawal's endorsement, Battle of the Deputy Senate's seat and many more. PDP, NGE, Others bash FG, as NBC suspends AIT/Raypower.   In all honesty, every reasonable Nigerian should be worried that this is happening in a democracy. It is more like there is an attempt to shackle the media, from what we are seeing. Today it is AIT, tomorrow you don't know who will be next. I just also want to hope that the president is not aware of how this started, and that he will intervene. Perhaps this is just the action of an overzealous head of government agency. Somebody who is a journalist. For crying out loud, Lanre Modibo Kawu has spent a better part of his career as a broadcast journalist on radio, and also a columnist on so many news papers, before getting this appointment. And he used to be...

Reasons why female youth corp members leave Abuja after their service year

To so many yet to serve Youth corp members who have not visited Abuja before, FCT is to them, the city which will help to shape their life, if they are by chance, posted to Abuja, for a compulsory 1 year National youth service.  Abuja, which was projected to contain maximum of 4 million people, was divided into four phases, and 16 cadastral zones, in the original city master plan, which was designed by the city builders in 1979.  Unlike the city of Lagos which was the Nigerian capital before December 12,1991, when the capital was moved to Aso Rock, by the then military general, Ibrahim Badamosun Babangida, Abuja is a planned city. And it is not hard to see. Although, Abuja is the kind of place where you can by chance meet any of the who is who of the country, and of course the chances of meeting any of the 109 Senators, or the 360 House of Representatives members, or important members of the diplomatic community are always high, if you live in the city's center, or y...

Senior Special Adviser to Rivers States Governor, Nyesom Wike, Oraye St. Franklin, has resigned his position.  Oraye St. Franklin was appointment and sworn in alongside his friends, on November 10, 2015, by the state governor, Nyesom Wike, at the River state government house in Port Harcourt.  In the wake of  the controversial 2019 governorship election in Rivers state, Oraye Franklin, shared a CCTV video footage of the Nigerian soldiers invading the private residence of Rivers States commissioner of Education, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja.  The video footage captured a horrific moment heavily armed soldiers were chasing and clamping down on people in and out of their house.  The video sparked serious outrage on all social media spaces, which later drew foreign attention.  The weighty evidence of the video made the PDP to come out public, and alleged that the Federal government through the minister of transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi is usin...

APC backtracks: lobby PDP senators to support Lawan's aspiration

The fight for senate leadership in the 9th National Assembly, intensified following the swearing in of President Mohammed Buhari, on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, for a second term in office.  The Presidency openly indicated interest to lobby for the PDP senators support, in a bid to ensure that there anointed candidate Ahmad Lawan clinches the Senate leadership seat.  Recall that the APC leadership formerly lambasted the main opposition party PDP over their statement that they are also determinant factor over who becomes the National Assembly leader.  Statements from the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lanre Isa Onilu, insinuated that the senators elected under the platform of the opposition party has no say on who becomes the next Senate President.  Mr Onilu also stated that it is abnormal for the opposition senators to take part in the election that would produce the Senate President, and others.  His statement read thus:“The PDP leaders and th...
