In our today's mainstream Nigeria newspaper review of Friday, June 7, we are going to focus on the suspension of AIT/Raypower, Emir Sanusi's misappropriation of N3.4b, Goje Lawal's endorsement, Battle of the Deputy Senate's seat and many more.
PDP, NGE, Others bash FG, as NBC suspends AIT/Raypower.
In all honesty, every reasonable Nigerian should be worried that this is happening in a democracy. It is more like there is an attempt to shackle the media, from what we are seeing.
Today it is AIT, tomorrow you don't know who will be next.
I just also want to hope that the president is not aware of how this started, and that he will intervene.
Perhaps this is just the action of an overzealous head of government agency. Somebody who is a journalist.
For crying out loud, Lanre Modibo Kawu has spent a better part of his career as a broadcast journalist on radio, and also a columnist on so many news papers, before getting this appointment. And he used to be a defender of press freedom.
So I am surprised that this is happening under him. Or maybe he is acting on orders from above.
Well we will encourage the AIT to go to court, because that is the right way to go about it. Click👉👉HERE To read the complete news
Emirs in trouble
Ganduje queries Sanusi over 3.4bn misappropriation
Commission recommends ex-CBN Governor for suspension.
What is happening in Kano State is practically conflict between tradition and modernity. But most importantly, the implication in modern day Nigeria, should be bore in mind.
From what we are meant to understand, the governor of Kano state plans to depose the Emir of Kano, because the Emir did not support him in the last election.
Whether it is true or not, that is the perception.
What the Kano State government is saying in particular, the Kano state anti corruption commission, is that there is a misappropriation of over N3.4bn, under the Emir of Kano's watch, and that is the basis of the queries supposed respond to that indictment by the Kano state anti corruption commission.
What I see from this move, is 'power conflict, personality conflict, politics between the Emirate' and the government of Kano state.
But I'm also surprised that there has been a conspiracy of silence, share hypocrisy, on the part of the Northern elites in this matter. One will expect that given the importance of Kano itself, that leaders in the North would have intervened in this matter.
On the other hand, there could be hidden hands involved in this matter, some people pulling the strings in the background, where governor Ganduje is just a poppet, pursuing some other people's agenda. Though a conspiracy theory, but it is possible in this matter.
But for us, we are not from Kano, we are Nigerians. I think we should continue to insist that whatever they do in Kano, will go beyond Kano. And even security agencies should take an interest in this, so that we don't have a governor, who will create crisis in Kano, price of which will be paid either in Abakaliki or Osogbo. Because Kano is like Lagos. It's a strategic place.
And the silence of Emir so far, I think it's very loud, and you don't know what will happen at the end of the day.

Senate Presidency: Goje backs Lawan, as Ndume vows to contest
According to Daily Trust, Mr Goje bowed out of the Senate President's contest, because of the respect he has for President Buhari and to go with the party's choice.
Moreover, Daily independent is reporting that the pressure from the EFCC trial which Goje is facing must have also contributed to his withdrawal from the race. Well that end is another matter all together.
But the race is now a straight forward contest between the party's trust, the party's anointed and Ali Ndume, even though Senator Ndume claimed that he has the approval of president Buhari, before contesting.
Ndume on the other hand should be commended for his courage, for his refusal to be intimidated by the party machinery, for his insistence on his fundamental right to seek that position, even as a member of the APC, or as a ranking member of the National Assembly.
Ndume indeed made a point that he has been in politics for a very long time, since second republic, and believes that he is entitled to that position.
Yesterday in Senator Bukola Saraki, in his validatory speech, also reiterated this, and also pointed out that now, it is a straight fight between the party's choice and Ali Ndume, who had himself being a majority leader in that house.
Well Tuesday is around the corner. We will like to see what happens on that day, because we are down to the last phase of the contest now.
But whoever emerges, be it Ahmad Lawan or Ali Ndume, the important thing is that the leadership of the National Assembly, either the Senate or the house of Representatives, must not be a leadership that will be controlled either by President Buhari, no matter the level of respect they have for him, or by the APC chairman.
The leadership of the National Assembly must be a leadership that is committed to serving Nigerians, providing necessary oversight, and that will be pursuing a responsible legislative agenda.
Senator Bukola Saraki and his colleague, Yakubu Dogara in the House of Rep. already left a word behind, that the 8th National Assembly was very productive with 301 bills passed by the Senate and 382 bills passed by House of Representatives, and a lot in terms of motions and solutions for addressing petitions. We expect that the 9th Assembly will be just as productive, if not, and that it will forge a decent responsible qualitative relationship with the other arms of government. Battle for Deputy begins as Goje steps down for Lawan. Senator Orji Uzo Kalu has been campaigning for the deputy senate president's position, moreover the position has been zoned to South south, and Senator Omo-Agege is likely the anointed candidate, even though Orji Uzo is insisting that the leaving the South East out of positions will be a disservice to the region.
Let's watch and see as the drama unfolds, because the former deputy senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu of the PDP is likely going to contest. Click here 👉👉Here to read the complete news
