Breaking News: Court throws out suit seeking to stop result collation in Rivers state

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, headed by Justice Inyang Ekwo, has thrown out a suit filed by the candidate of African Action Congress, seeking to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), from collating results of the governorship election held in Rivers State on 9th of March 2019.

Recall that on March 20th, Justice Ekwo refused to grant an exparte motion filed by the AAC candidate, Mr Biokpomabo Awara seeking to stop the collation, announcement, and conclusion of election without hearing the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The trial Judge held that the suit is lacking merit. Noting that once an election is held, the Federal High Court or state high court cannot assume or exercise jurisdiction over the matter, as it is the responsibility of the election petition tribunal.

The judge hereby held that the matter be dismissed as it is lacking merit.
